Installation is rather simple. Unzip the files to a directory. To the right are the list of files and directory structures required.

Note: The windows application requires the .NET runtime installed. If you do not know what this is then you probably don't have it installed. It is a bit like the 'java' runtime. Visit the download section.

If you prefer not to install the runtime then what you can do is use the XML files, the raw/debug data files, the Isocis map files and the Isometric runtime for viewing the games. The ?? is a prefix for the games, e.g. pg, a8, kl. These are available from the download section.

Refer to the outputs section for a description of the various files.

To start the application, double click the executable file (IsoMapper.exe)

The screen is split into two areas. The toolbar and the main content.

The toolbar contains all the actions allowed:

  • Load a map: the first thing you will do!
  • Edit a map: create your own rooms!
  • View Gfx: have a look at all the graphics in the game
  • Render Room: View the current room in the isometric viewer
  • Render Map: View the current map (i.e. all rooms) in the isometric viewer
  • Help: Who did what, when, and how to find them
  • Exit: Close this brilliant program ;)

To the right of the toolbar is the file viewer. This lets you view any of the various output files (as mentioned at the beginning). Simply click a radio button to view the file. Obviously you need to have a map loaded first.

The main content displays all the details the loaded map:

  • current room characteristics
  • rooms in the game
  • rooms that have special objects
  • room layout, objects and background items
  • special items
  • map

These are described fully in the next section
