ENGLEZI UČE KARATE
Neobični trio, slučajno sastavljen prilikom zajedničkog zadatka-programiranja
zanimljive video-igre za kučni računar Spectrum - Duško Dimitrijevič, student
matematike iz Beograda, Damir Muraja, inženjer elektrotehnike i Dragoljub
Andželkovič, dizajner zemunske "Elektronske industrije - NIŠ", uspeli su da
svoju igru prodaju velikoj softver kompaniji "BUG-BYTE" iz Liverpula, jednoj od
pet največih u Britaniji.
Igra je odmah zainteresovala stručnjake poznate firme, koja mesečno krčmi po
nekoliko desetina novih video-igara na zapadnom tržištu, več zasičenom
dasadašnjim "modelima" i "fazonima" (lavirinti, obaranje aviona i kosmičkih
letalica, "ubijanje", itc.).
Ideja da se napravi igra sa elementima tradicionalnih kineskih borilačkih
veština, potekla je od Duška. U programiranju, do izražaja su došle i Duškove
sposobnosti, a grafički deo preuzeo je na sebe Dragoljub. Radili su intenzivno
oko mesec dana i napor je urodio plodom.
Krupne figure
Uprkos skromnim mogučnostima Spectruma, koji je u Evropi prodat u više od dva
miliona primeraka a kod nas ih, kako se procenjuje, ima oko 30.000, napravljena
je igra u kojoj se pojavljuje 18 boraca, koji u kombinaciji jedan protiv
drugog, jedan protiv dvojice i jedan protiv trojice, koriste četiri osnovna
udarca (iz karatea), odnosno dve blokade, i po jedan udarac rukom i nogom.
Figure se kreču napred i nazad, udarac se može zaustaviti napola, telo okrenuti
od protivnika ili ka njemu.
- Engleze je posebno zaintrigiralo što su figure neubičajeno krupne, čak osam
puta osam karaktera, i zauzimaju trečinu upotrebljenog ekrana - kaže
Dimitrijevič. - Programirali smo i riplej, tako da posle prekida borbe, odnosno
ipona, kad je zbog "smrtonosnog" udarca borba završena, igrač koji igra protiv
kompjutera ili protiv drugog igrača, može vratiti situaciju i ponoviti je na
ekranu samo jednim pritiskom na dugme.
Glavni poen dobilu su, naravno, programeri,napravivši zanimljivu igru uz koju
ide i lep crtež u kineskom stilu, radem pomoču Spectrumovih šest boja, ne
računajuči crnu i belu, a za sve vreme borbe kompjuter emituje kinesku muziku.
Kompjuterski borci imaju "uplačenih" 16 poena, a borac o kome se brine igrač
(protivnik kompjutera) ima "tri života", izražena kroz grafički prikaz tri
stisnute pesnice, koje postepeno tamne - što "borac protiv svih" dobija više
"batina" - dok mu se, ako nema sreče i spretnosti, životi ne "ugase".
Može se igrati i uz pomoč đojstika (palica za igru) i tada su suprotstavljeni
igrač igraču.
I za Commodore 64
Tri amatera-entizijaste dokazala su da se pažljivim pračenjem zbivanja na
kompjuterskom tržištu, uz mala ulaganja, može zaraditi koja para čak i na
deviznom tržištu. Jer, ne računajuči opremu koja ne staje više od pet starih
miliona dinara, u ovu video-igru uloženo je jedino mesec dana svesrdnog
popodnevno-nočnog rada, a očekuje se da iz Engleske, gde se isplačuje procenat
od prodaje kaseta, stigne bar 4.000 funti (oko sto miliona starih dinara).
- Sveže ideje imaju i Madžari, koji se takođe uspešno pojavljuju na tržištu
zabavnih igara u Evropi i svetu - kaže Anđelkovič. Neizvesno je, kao i u
svakom pionirskom poslu, koliko čemo zaraditi, ali to u krajnjoj liniji nije
toliko važno. I ako dobijemo dovoljno novca, nameravamo da ga uložimo u nabavku
boljih kompjutera i pravljenje druge, još zanimljivije i dinamičnije igre. Novu
igru čemo grafički obraditi u trodimenzionalnom efektu, odnosno u ambijentu
crtanom sa perspektivom.
Karate igru, rađenu u dvodimenzionalnom crtežu, naši programeri preradiče za
kučni računar Commodore 64, a kompanija če im to dobro nadoknaditi, opet
procentom od prodaje kaseta, u tolikom iznosu kao da su uradili potpuno novu
igru. Ukoliko bi sama kompanija prilagodila igru drugom tipu računara, procenat
zarade bi bio prepolovljen. Takva su pravila igre na tržištu. Međutim, ni
kompaniji, kako trvrde Dimitrijevič, Muraja i Anđelkovic, ne bi bilo lako da
igru prenese u nešto drugačiji program. To je mukotrpan i prilično složen
posao.
Samo za grafičku obradu utrošeno je oko 40 jako uveličanih grafičkih slika,
koje su u program Spectruma (programiranje je povremeno rađeno i uz pomoč tri
kompjutera Spectrum) ubacivane uz pomoč digitalnog trejsera. Trejserom je,
zapravo, programirana animacija.

POHVALE „KUNG-FUU"
U decembarskom broju najtiražnijeg engleskog časopisa „Your computer",
posvećenog kućnim računarima, u vrlo obimnom tekstu pod naslovom „Pregled novih
programa za Spectrum", predstavljene su najnovije video-igre koje su se, po
tradiciji, pojavile na engleskom tržištu uoči Nove godine.
Na prvom mestu u ovom članku. govori se vrlo pohvalno o igri „Kung-fu", koju
su napravili trojica Jugoslovena - Duško Dimitrijević, Damir Muraja i Dragoljub
Anđelković.
Vrlo detaljno i s puno oduševljenja, autor članka opisuje igru naših autora,
koju je izdala firma „Bug-Byte", i u kojoj je, kako sam priznaje, beskrajno
uživao. On naročito ističe grafičku lepotu belih figura na tamno plavoj
pozadini. Baletskim koracima majstori borilačkih veština kreću se unutar
kineske sobe, koja je predstavljena verodostojno, bez nepotrebnih detalja.
Tekstopisac napominje da je to jedna od prvih, ako ne i prva igra sa ovako
krupnim figurama. Posebne pohvale autor upućuje tome što igra sadrži riplej, pa
igrač može na ekranu da proveri udarce koje je zadao ili koje je dobio.
U istom broju na celoj stranici u boji objavljena je reklama za nove video
-igre Firme „Bug-Bvte". a medu njima je i slika kasete „Kung-fu".
Gotovo istovremeno, objavljena je veoma laskava ocena ovog ostvarenja trojice
jugoslovenskih autora i u tiražnom američkom časopisu „Personal computer
world".

This is probably the most unusal game to be seen on the Spectrum for a long
while, perhaps ever. As its name suggests, the game is a simulation of the
noble art of defence and attack. There are two modes of play for one
player against the computer, or for two players against each other.
The one and two-player modes each have a different background of suitably
oriental design. The playing characters are quite large, animated line
drawings which faithfully follow your commands. Four movements are possible, a
left arm karate chop, a step forward and block, a right foot front kick and
a left foot back kick. Additionally the character may be advanced or
retreated.
Below the playing area is an indicator of hits on the computer player. A
successful knock out strike results in the hit character collapsing to the
ground. The more successful you are on the single player mode, the tougher
the computer player becomes to beat. Now everyone has the chance to become a
grasshopper...
CRITICISM
"Kung Fu is a totally original qame. The graphics are very large and allow
you and a friend to beat hell out of each other. Each of the Kung Fu moves is
beautifully animated. As you get better you move up belts, white to yellow etc.
The sound is good with a good tune playing continuously. This is very playable
and quite addictive. I don't know how long this will keep you occupied, but
it's still a good game on the face of it. If you want a change from the usual
type of game, this is worth it."
"It must be said that this is an exceptional attempt to reproduce a very
difficult sport on a computer, and it has been totally successful in achieving
its ends. Characters take about half the playing area (in height) and are
superbly animated. The option of playing the computer or an opponent is a great
asset to this game, allowing friends to join in for a bit of variation.
Obviously the person who programmed this game is into Kung Fu as each move is
executed the way it should be. The only niggle I've got about the game is that
there is no on/off switch for the oriental music which can drive you around the
bend. I have mixed feelings about whether this game will be constantly
addictive, as it does get repetetive kicking your partner's teeth in
or crippling his sex life!"
"The first thing to strike you about KungFu is the lovely graphics. The
backgrounds are exactly right, and manage to be quite soothing to watch as you
match wits with either computer or a friend. At times the movements of the two
characters can look like a piece of ballet. Kung Fu is a brave and almost
entirely successful simulation. Perhaps the only complaint in the end might
be that once mastered, It would be nice to have some other moves to try out. As
it is, this should prove interesting, different and challenging and for its
novelty value, worth the money."

Charmingly oriental graphics frame well-animated Bruce Lee clones trying to
knock each other senseless in this superb example of on-Spectrum violence.
Stomping, rather than getting stomped, means advance as well as retreat, and
there's a choice of four classic blows in the authentic 'punch-chop-kick'
martial arts tradition. Your inscrutable opponent will attempt to block all
your attacks and smack you in the gob. An action replay facility allows you to
study the sequence leading to each terminally-successful knuckle sandwich
delivery. Acquisition of 48K black belt status eventually leads to another
screen with different background and figures - but the action stays more or
less the same. This is one of few action games where cursor control can be
extremely accurate, simply because of Kung Fu fighting's formalised movements.
Although it initially appears simplistic, the various combinations of attack,
defence and surprise can be very entertaining and it's certainly safer than the
real thing! For enthusiasts of the real thing, it'll provide a chance to keep
in trim while their smashed bodies heal.

Kung Fu is quite a good martial arts simulation, but I'd have liked a few
more possible 'moves' and a bit less randomness.

A delightful program combining humour, skill, good graphics and violence. The
thrill of advancing on your opponent and knocking him down with one swift
blow is fun.
